PCHR 2022 Protecting Women's Rights in the Gaza Strip

Protecting Women's rights, Access to Justice. PCHR planned intervention focuses on supporting women’s access to justice, this intervention is part of the PCHR's strategic and organizational work through its Women’s Rights Unit, which provides legal aid, especially for marginalized women. The unit receive complaints from victims of gender based violence (GBV) and represent them in Shari’a courts (local courts related to family issues). PCHR's expect the number of women seeking legal aid to increase in the coming years. PCHR is also the legal consultant and advisor at the Aman shelter, the only women’s shelter that allow women to stay overnight and reside for extended periods of time. In addition to providing legal representation, the Women’s’ Rights Unit carries out awareness lectures, targeting mainly women but with an increase of men as well. This project intervention also includes issues related to CEDAW-convention, GBV, Family Law, “honor” crimes, rights of widows and children among others. other components related to this planned project would be the focus on trainings, the PCHR is planing to conducts more in-depth training courses in human rights and relevant international laws, targeting HR defenders, CSO members and volunteers, youth, students etc. building on a train-the-trainers method. As a response to the women needs in Gaza, the PCHR designed three years intervention from 2022 to 2025, the project intends to scale up the work in providing free legal aid services, protection services (women shelter), monitoring and documenting violations against women including supporting reporting efforts as part of the contribution of PCHR to the shadow report for CEDAW committee which are a collaboration of PCHR and other civil society organizations,
